EL4IL: Environmental Literacy for Illinois

Download the document.

Equitable environmental literacy is grounded in an understanding that everyone has a right to environmental education and a healthy and just environment, and those that have been historically excluded from and disproportionately impacted by the dominant culture are at the forefront of equity and justice. EL4IL aims to expound on the idea of environmental literacy and outline a multitude of resources, approaches, and examples for how communities, educators, and individuals can work together to create environmental education opportunities that foster the advancement of environmental literacy. Goals have been set to guide the development of environmental literacy throughout the state, but the exact methods for achieving those goals will look different for each educator, organization, and community.
