Andrew Family Foundations Issues RFP for 2021 Grants

Deadline: March 15, 2021 (Letters of Inquiry)

The Andrew Family strives to create opportunities that enrich and improve the quality of life for underresourced communities and to protect and preserve the natural environment of those communities.  Edith G. and Edward J. Andrew and their five children founded the Andrew Family Foundation in Orland Park, Illinois, in 1993 to continue the philanthropic legacy of Aileen S. and Victor J. Andrew, Ed’s parents and founders of ANDREW Corporation, and Kathryn C. and Burton S. Grant, Edie’s parents and active members in their community and church.  Through the foundation, the family is committed to continuing the legacy of creating opportunity for generations to come.

To that end, the Andrew Family Foundation seeks to partner with one or more organizations with a creative solution to an issue facing underresourced communities and/or that helps protect and preserve the natural environment.  Preference will be given to programs where these two interests intersect.

The foundation’s goal is to have an impact in communities that lack access to economic and social opportunity as well as critical resources. The foundation desires to work toward resolving such inequities by alleviating disparities in food access, affordable housing, high-quality education, physical and psychological health care, and/or criminal justice.

The foundation also desires to support programs and organizations that address society’s responsibility to conserve the planet’s natural resources and promote environmental sustainability.

The foundation intends to engage in long-term collaborations that drive measurable change. In addition to providing financial resources, the foundation intends/expects to be actively involved in promoting the growth and expansion of the selected programs or organizations.

For purposes of this initiative, the foundation will NOT consider programs that support public policy or provide funding for endowments or capital grants.

In pursuit of its objectives, the foundation will award grant(s) of up to $600,000over three years. Financial support will be restricted to a specific existing or new project or initiative and can include research to support the program. Preference will be given to organizations that have a potential for expansion opportunities based on data-driven results.

Applications will be processed through an online system administered by Foundation Source. The foundation will NOT consider hard-copy submissions. The procedures for applying are as follows:

On the “HOME” tab, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the “START” button to take the online eligibility quiz. (Note: when you get to the first question, you will need to select “XXX” from the drop-down menu, then hit “NEXT” to answer the eligibility questions.)

If an applicant meets all eligibility criteria, it will be invited to submit a Letter of Inquiry.

LOIs must be completed by 11:00 p.m. Central Time on Monday, March 15. (Technical support will only be available through Foundation Source between 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.)

A committee appointed by the Andrew Family Foundation will review Letters of Inquiry between February 1 and March 29, 2021.
