New Interactive Tool Improves Access to Energy Efficiency Data

Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory have developed an interactive tool to provide better access to data from a recent major study, The Future of U.S. Electricity Efficiency Programs Funded by Utility Customers: Program Spending and Savings Projections to 2030.

The study provides a bottom-up assessment of the potential impact of existing and likely state policies and market conditions to promote or constrain future spending and savings for electricity efficiency programs funded by utility customers in all U.S. states. It presents three scenarios of program spending and savings—low, medium and high cases—looking forward to 2030, with projections for interim years.

The interactive tool allows users to visualize projected program spending and savings data by state, by year and by scenario, with maps, charts, and tables ranking the states. The data can be downloaded by viewers, and the tool can be shared online and embedded in other web sites.

The report authors are Chuck Goldman, Sean Murphy, Ian Hoffman, Natalie Mims Frick, Greg Leventis and Lisa Schwartz in Berkeley Lab’s Electricity Markets and Policy Group. The study was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity, Transmission Permitting and Technical Assistance Division, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy–Strategic Priorities and Impact Analysis, and Office of Energy Policy and Systems Analysis, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
