The future of solar energy in Kewanee looks as bright as a sunny day in June. In fact, to a large extent the future is now for solar, as a number of homes and businesses in the Kewanee area have already installed solar generating systems.
According to Kevin Yepsen, some 2.1 megawatts of electricity is already being produced by solar installations in this area. And if the area school districts get approval from the Illinois Power agency for their solar projects, and a few other small business get approval for their projects, the total will be 5 to 6 megawatts, Yepsen said.
