Calling all citizen scientists! Participate in #WeDigBio at Illinois from October 19-20

Discover your inner scientist by participating in the University of Illinois WeDigBio Transcriptithon hosted by the Illinois Natural History Survey Herbarium.

Scientists have explored and documented the natural world for centuries, collecting billions of specimens now lodged in museums, universities, and field stations worldwide. The University of Illinois and other institutions across the globe want to make that information available to the general public, but they need your help!

The University of Illinois and the Illinois Natural History Survey Herbarium invites members of the public to help transform the handwritten or typewritten data sequestered on the labels of Plant Biology Collection specimens into an open, globally accessible, digital resource.

There will be pizza, games, and prizes*!

This event is one of the many transcription parties that will be held across the globe from October 18–21 during the Worldwide Engagement for Digitizing Biocollections (WeDigBio) event. For online opportunities, visit https://wedigbio.org/find-a-project.

While the local event at Illinois offers a social setting where people can transcribe specimen data while learning about the herbarium and local plant diversity, members of the public can contribute from anywhere at any time during the event at one of the participating online transcription platforms. Register and ask how!
