Scooters punch above their weight when it comes to air pollution

Despite making up only a small proportion of traffic, in many cities scooters are responsible for the bulk of pollution from organic aerosols and aromatic hydrocarbons. That’s according to researchers from across Europe who measured both primary organic aerosol emissions from scooter exhaust pipes and the secondary organic aerosols formed over time from precursor gases in the exhaust.
