New women’s jail typifies green trend

Solar panels on the white rooftop of Nashville’s newest jail — a hulking concrete building on Harding Place — face south to consume as much sun as they can.

The new Metro building is Tennessee’s first LEED-certified, green detention center, slated to house female inmates for the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office in September. Corrections Corporation of America will run it.
