Cracking Open the Scientific Process (and ResearchGate)

Read the full story in the New York Times.

Many scientists want to open up an age-old system of submitting private research to commercial journals that they say is hidebound, expensive and elitist.

This story focuses on open science initiatives and prominently features ResearchGate, which is being presented as a social network for scientists. ResearchGate allows scientists to:

  • Engage and interact with fellow researchers
  • Build an online presence
  • Know what’s happening in science

The community is open to researchers from all disciplines (there are quite a few social scientists).
